This Makita power tool comes with some new functions, it has a control panel that allows you to adjust this impact driver to some very handy pre-settings.
There is a 4 stage assist mode which does the following:
- Assist Mode for Wood Applications – When driving into wood, it starts off slow to help avoid the screw from falling or “screw cam-out” at the beginning of the driving, and gives you more control. Once the tool has to use the impact function, the speed increases to maximum capacity.
- Bolt Mode – This mode is to stop bolts and nuts falling off. In reverse, it has an auto-stop feature, it detects when the bolt is loose, and stops before the bolt is about to fall off, this stops it from falling off and dropping on the floor.
- T-Mode 1– This is for driving self-drilling screws into thin metal sheets. This mode drives the screws at high speed, then stops when the impact function is required.
- T Mode 2 – This mode is for driving self-drilling screws into thicker metal plates. It does the same as Mode 1, but uses enough power to make sure the screw does not break or strip.

If you are doing repetitive work, and using two of the modes often, rather than using the control panel, you can program that button above the trigger to switch between the two modes you require.
